The Gallery of Stone Tablets
The Gallery of Stone Tablets consists of nineteen archaic
stone tablets, standing along either side of the Gallery
in the Taoist Temple of Nine Immortals. Each tablet was
written by a wise man of the past–nineteen tablets
of wisdom from the most learned men in ancient China.
Similar tablets have been found in many areas. Near the
Yushan Hill, the precipice itself has been inscribed, as have the tablets. To
date, 113 locations are known to have similar tablets.
The largest inscription on a precipice is found near Fuzhou.
There, a south-facing slope records the "Inscription
of the Traditional Martial Arts Practice on the Southern
Drill Ground." There are 219 characters in the inscription,
which measures 330 cm x 455 cm.
