Aquarius
To astronomers, Aquarius is only a
constellation in the sky. For the rest of mankind, Aquarius meant so much more.
It was revered as a symbol of life, of sainthood, and especially of water.
Aquarius is a water sign. The Aquarius
symbol is a pictographic version of waves on the water, and looks like this:

Many ancient civilizations included a "water god" among
their pantheon. The Babylonians, Greeks, and Egyptians all
worshipped such gods. Water was an important part of life–without
it, there could be no life.
Water also had deep spiritual significance.
The collective unconscious is said to be a sea of consciousness. Believers fish
out great wisdom from the sea, accessing their Akashic records.
Goddesses, priestesses, and other
archetypes of femininity are represented by Aquarius. The Age of Aquarius
refers to a return to higher consciousness, as represented by feminine
energies. The age of Aquarius occurs every 26,000 years, with the universe
swinging from the masculine energies of Leo and Pisces to the feminine energies
of Aquarius to Virgo. Modern peoples believe that this will be a time of
growing creativity and intuition, especially in the third dimension.
Throughout history, different legends grew
around this constellation. Seventeenth century Christians linked the
constellation of Aquarius with St. John the Baptist. Arabs, on the other hand,
were forbidden from having pictures of living forms. Water was life in hot
countries, and Arabs saw Aquarius as a bucket of water.
Each year in Egypt, the Nile overflows,
bringing water and soil-boosting silt to farmlands in the Nile Delta. To the
Egyptians, Aquarius wa Hapi, god of the Nile. He poured water into the Nile
during flood season. The resulting crops were richer and more abundant than
crops in other areas, and Hapi was much venerated.
People born under the Aquarius sign (January 20–February
19) are honest and loyal friends. They are often creative,
a great source of original ideas. They tend to be independent,
often intellectual, and may be unpredictable. At times,
Aquarians need to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday
life–spiritual retreats and meditation are popular
choices.
